Folk and the Guide

Pailhaven is full of people going about their day: dockers hauling crates, smiths at the forge, anglers on the jetty, a fiddler in the tavern. Most of them will stop and talk.

  • Right-click someone to talk. They turn to face you and a dialogue opens with a few things to ask.
  • Walk away to end the conversation. They say goodbye and go back to work.
  • Folk keep a daily routine on real time: some head to the tavern in the evening, go home at night, or take Sunday off on the quay bench.
  • Many folk chat out loud now and then in a speech bubble when you pass.
  • Some folk offer a service: an extra option that opens a menu or does a job for you.

The Guide is an old sailor by the Quest Guide kiosk on Bucket Square, right where you spawn. Click him for a chat menu sorted into settling in, trading and discovering. Anywhere in the world, /guide lists his topics and /guide <topic> reads one.

Not everyone has a job for you, but many have a story. A few to look out for:

  • Aldous Penn, the Town Crier, who knows the news.
  • Halvard Brune, the Harbourmaster, who runs the quay.
  • Old Marlowe, a retired ferry pilot full of tall tales.
  • Eskil Morrow, Keeper of the Light at the lighthouse.
  • Ambrose Quill, the Archivist.
  • Wren Callow, the Rune Loft enchanter.
  • Brother Anselm, who rings the Tally Bell.
  • Fenn Ashby, the busker, and Nessa Kerrow, the Tap & Tide fiddler.

Mind your manners around the townsfolk. Sneaking up on them, hitting them or poking through their things can bring the Harbour Watch down on you.
