Root Delve

Under the Wreck Lagoon, the roots of the Wreckroot run deep. The Root Delve is a four-section dungeon carved through them: down past a drowned brig, through the root warrens and into the Hollow Heart, where the Wreckroot itself waits. Each run is your own private copy, solo or with up to 3 friends.

  1. Reach Diver rank.
  2. /warp Wreckroot to the Wreck Lagoon landing. The Jungle Warden keeps the Warden’s Post at the end of the landing jetty. Ask him how to face the Wreckroot before you go down.
  3. Follow the timber gangway from the jetty foot through the dune into the Marrowgale’s breach, then walk into the root arch under her bow. The Root Gate menu opens.
  4. Pick a tide. You step straight through.

Bringing a crew: form a party first with /party invite <name> and /party accept. The party leader starts the run from the Root Gate and everyone comes along. Only the leader can start.

Inside the Delve:

CommandWhat it does
/leaveEnds your run and takes you out.
/stuckGets you unstuck if you are wedged.
/drewardsCollects any dungeon rewards waiting for you.

Follow the lanterns. Diver Wren Tallis left notes along the way.

Every Monday (00:00 UTC) the tide turns and the whole Delve gets a twist for the week. The Root Gate shows this week’s tide.

Weekly tideWhat changes
Rot TideBark-Sworn and Watchmen heal while they fight. Finish them, don’t just wound them.
UndertowDeckhands can dive at your feet every 15 seconds, not just once.
Dark WaterDeckhands pulse Darkness at anyone within 14 blocks.
SpawningDeckhands and Bark-Sworn may hatch a Thorn Crawler when they rise.

Every weekly tide adds +2 Marrowgale BrassMarrowgale BrassBrass, tar and timber from the wreck.Spend it at the Warden Workbench (/log).Jungle currency to a clear, on any difficulty.

The Delve punishes standing at range and plinking. Every threat has a tell you can see or hear first.

  • Deckhands throw harpoons. Sidestep the line, or it drags you back toward the crew.
  • Bark-Sworn charge when their bark cracks. Watch for it.
  • Explosions (TNT, explosive arrows) only do 35% damage to Delve mobs.
  • First Mate Oakes takes most hits on his shield. Close in, and keep the pressure on when the roots start mending him.
  • The Thornweaver snares you in her weave and drops her brood at 60% and 30% health.

Barkhide WatchmenCalled at 60% and 25% health. They mend the Wreckroot: cut them down first.
Spore BloomBelow 40%, spores burn the ground. Move.
OvergrowthBelow 15% it hardens up and recovers faster.
EnrageAfter 6 minutes it hits harder and the roots start burning everyone.
Long shotsHits from more than 14 blocks away do 40% less. Get close.

The Wreckroot’s own counter is a brew. Its vines grab everything but their own sap, and Rootsap TonicRootsap TonicTapped from the Wreckroot itself. Tastes like a ship's hold.Wreckroot: his vines let go of you and his rage bites softer. ⭑⭑⭑ is made from that sap. It is a Mirehollow recipe: ask the Jungle Warden how to face the Wreckroot, or ask Mother Gant at the Still about her recipes. Rootsap and fenwort grow in the Mirehollow herb beds, and Wren’s Exchange sells a little Rootsap too. Drink it before the fight and, while it lasts:

  • the Wreckroot’s vines no longer slow you, and
  • the burning roots of its enrage hurt half as much.

Better brews last longer: 4 minutes for a rough bottle, 6 for a good one and 9 for a Heartwood Rootsap Tonic. It also gives a short burst of Absorption and Resistance. See Tap & Tide for how brewing works.

You need to deal at least 100 damage to the Wreckroot to be paid.
